A Message to Parents

As your child uses these companion exercises to develop and strengthen their literacy skills your support is vital to their success. Many times as a parent you may feel unsure about how to best encourage your child’s curiosity. Below you will find useful ideas on ways to take a more active role and support your child in their educational endeavors both at home and at school.

The exercises on this website range from age 3 to 9 years old (as indicated on the information page for each activity). The activities should be performed until mastered. If you subscribe on our main website, you can view your child’s progress as your child is guided through all of the Create-a-Reader exercises.

We suggest the following general activities guidelines for parents:

• Read aloud with your child for at least 20 minutes everyday.
• If your child is a beginning reader and is comfortable reading aloud, have him/her read to you.
• Encourage your child to read in everyday situations, such as reading street signs or food labels.
• And remember, learning should be fun, not frustrating for a child.

Create-a-Reader.com is a literacy program that takes a student from beginning reading to a third grade reading level. It is tailored to your child’s pace of learning. Create-a-Reader is a supplemental tool that can be used with any literacy program. It also includes over 1500 words that can be used in custom spelling lists. Imagine letting your child practice all of the words listed in a particular children’s book and after doing the online exercises being able to read that short book in its entirety.
